We specialize in producing publications about building energy conservation.
Some of our customers are represented by a single decision-maker. But oftentimes, we work with a committee to garner technical review. Since committee members don’t always agree on everything, we usually take responsibility for resolving controversy and clarifying ambiguity. This process has worked well for a wide range of organizations. Feel free to contact our existing customers and ask them about our success in converting “group-think” into useful and readable documents. We publish the following types of documents according to the particular needs of our customers.
Saturn is working with BPI and NREL to produce five regional Energy Analyst Field Guides and a Technician’s Guide to Photovoltaic Systems.
Saturn has published specifications, procedures, and consumer guides for Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) in the States of California, Oregon, Wyoming, and Colorado. HPwES is a private-sector home energy conservation program sponsored by DOE and EPA.
Saturn collaborated with the DOE regional offices and committees of state weatherization programs to develop installation standards for weatherization programs in four DOE regions. These projects included setting standards, documenting step-by-step procedures, and checking procedures against applicable building and mechanical codes. Saturn staff performed writing, editing, layout and final production of the Weatherization Field Guides in printed and digital formats. 1997 – 2005
State Weatherization Field Guides
We created custom Weatherization Field Guides for several state weatherization programs, working with technical committees to resolve technical problems, and with policy makers to create clear policy guidance. 1997 – 2005
National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
We produced and illustrated consumer fact sheets for the DOE's Energy-Efficiency and Renewable-Energy Clearinghouse. Topics include: active and passive solar heating, heat-pump operation and maintenance, home-moisture problems, window treatments, natural-gas heating efficiency, and mechanical ventilation.
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
We wrote and illustrated a technical manual on hydronic heating for residential and light commercial buildings, entitled Hydronic Heating: A Practical Overview. Also wrote and illustrated Energy-Efficient Ducts: A Practical Overview.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
We beta tested the NEAT computer audit and wrote illustrated software manual for NEAT.
McGraw-Hill / E-Source
We performed research, technical writing, and technical review for updates of Heating: The Technology Atlas Series.
Energy Ideas Clearinghouse, Western Area Power Administration, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association
John Krigger is currently writing a series of articles on energy-efficiency for commercial buildings for utility newsletters and websites.
National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA)
John Krigger and Chris Dorsi write monthly columns for utility-customer magazines throughout the U.S. on topics of residential energy efficiency.
Consortium for Energy Efficiency
We wrote, illustrated, and published Specification of Energy Efficient Installation and Maintenance Practices for Residential HVAC Systems, along with a supporting white paper. Joint venture with R.J. Karg & Associates.
E-mail Chris Dorsi or John Krigger for more information, including phone numbers and e-mail addresses of references for the above projects. Let us know if you want to Customize Saturn Publications to Fit Your Energy Program.
